Air Vice Marshall to Lead the National Cyber Force

October 19, 2023

Established in 2020, the National Cyber Force (NCF) is a partnership between GCHQ and the Ministry of Defence. NCF carries out cyber operations on a daily basis to protect against threats to the UK, further the UK’s foreign policy, support military operations, and prevent serious crime.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Air Vice-Marshal Tim Nea-Hopes has been appointed as the new commander of the NCF, the first member of the Armed Forces to hold the role.

With the NCF relocating to Salmesbury, a town well known to myself and other members of the FSB’s North West team as we have held our quarterly face to face meetings there for quite a few years. Not only does this bring a vital part of our country’s cyber security to the region, but also offers locals the opportunity to apply for upcoming roles.

Another bonus is Air Vice Marshall Nea-Hopes’ long career in cyber and intelligence during a distinguished military career, most recently serving at the heart of Defence Intelligence.
