Benefits of Creating a Group on this Community

October 28, 2024

People often ask me why creating a group on here is helpful so here are a few reasons:

  1. A Way of Connecting with Veterans
Our community is here to show our support for our Armed Forces and their families, in recognition of the service they have done for this country. Once they leave the Forces, it can feel somewhat lonely and knowing there is somewhere they can come to which has been set up for them is supportive. We can’t change their past or what they have been through, but we can be here for them going on in life.
  2. A Positive Area
We have a zero tolerance for toxic behaviour; as a group owner, you can ensure that the people who join are there to share information, chat and generally have a laugh. Forces personnel have a wicked sense of humour and they have some hyssterical stories, particularly with new recruits. I’m still giggling recalling being told of a young lad being asked to get a bucket of steam from the engine room…
  3. 24 x 7 Access
Problems tend to occur at inconvenient times; you’re more likely to have an issue with a tax return at 22h at night (that’s when most of us SME owners do the paperwork) rather than at 15h  in the afternoon when you can ring someone else. It means a lot to people to know there is someone online who can potentially help or worst case just be supportive.
  4. Anonymity
Some people find it easier to be open online, under a pseudonym, to discuss issues without fear of judgement. This is particularly important for anyone who is struggling with a mental or physical condition. They are more  able to discuss issues they can’t with their family or friends and for some, this is so important.
  5. Helping Each Other
There is such a huge benefit from being able to access resources and information from a wide variety of people, each with their own experience and perspective(s). Life also has a way of throwing obstables in our path, some of which can hit us from left field, so never under estimate how your knowledge of stopping slugs from attacking someone’s prize Hostas each year or a suggestions for a good travel agent can be exactly what someone needs.
  6. Your Group, Your Content
Anyone in your group will be able to see all your content and discussions. This community does not cherry pick content to share with others based on who is paying or some weird code which regulates what you and others see. Equally, your group members won’t be bombarded with irrelevant content as they will only see information from the groups they subscribe to.
