CE Marking Requirements for Manufacturers

September 2, 2023

Pleased to see that the government has backed down on the need for manufacturers who produce items under the CE mark will now be allowed to use this “Indefinitely” (hopefully not until a new government comes in and changes its mind of course – cynic me ? Never !)

Up until today (1st August), firms had been given a deadline of the end of 2024 to change the CE mark to a new standard of “UK Conformity Assessed” (UKCA).

A much-welcomed move by the government’s Department of Business & Trade, but I wonder how many companies who decided to bite the bullet early so to speak are now regretting their decision to act- I presume there won’t be any compensation for the additional costs incurred sadly…

Sept 2023 PS. The rumour mill has it that Labour is in (not so) secret talks with the French government about reversing Brexit. If that does happen, then a lot of companies will have again lost out financially.
