Quarter Finals Weekend: EPCR Championship

April 14, 2024

As we come towards the final stages of this competition, the quarter finals have given us an intense weekend of sport played at the highest of levels by the clubs involved. UBB came so close, sadly La Rochelle were outplayed by Leinster and I shook throughout the first half of our game; the Chiefs were outstanding and it was a close thing at half time.

A real pleasure to see the tries coming in, but above all the true joy of both Willis and Kinghorn who both had a huge game yesterday. They appear to be loving their time in Toulouse and as someone posted on one of the groups, please England RFU, keep up with your rules on not allowing overseas players to play for your national team. Your loss is out gain at club level, especially when the national squad takes at least 9 or more of our team.

They say when it’s going your way, it just flows and yesterday was a spectacle of rugby from a team that almost intuitively knows where their teammates are without even looking. Toulouse has an amazing academy and when you think that Paul Costes has only celebrated his 21st earlier this month and yet picked up the Man of the Match award yesterday, it gives you some idea of the depth of the talent this we have in stored at the club. He will certainly be challenging Danty and former Toulouse player Gael for a place in the national squad very soon.

It was truly a carnival atmosphere at Ernest Wallon followed by the all night party around the pool. Yes there was karaoke which means that my rendition of “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough” got another outing.  I certainly don’t recall singing “You Sexy Thing” to the Loup, but then again, maybe I did …
