It’s finally here ! The day all rugby fans the world over have been dreaming of since 2019.
Tonight, hosts France will open the tournament by playing against New Zealand at the Stade de France. For northern hemisphere supporters, we also have two key matches tomorrow (England v Fiji) and on Sunday (Scotland v current Cup holders South Africa).
In group chat, it’s been interesting to see a couple of people already starting to talk about the final and how disappointed they are going to feel when it’s over. Potentially a sign of anxiety, perhaps more so for those who are older or potentially have a medical condition that the rest of us are not aware of: I guess they might be thinking if they will still be alive in 2027.
I’m trying to get these people to try and focus only on the next match they want to watch, relish the thought of the quality of rugby they hope to see, smile when the minnows triumph over a higher ranked team as inevitably happens and just enjoy the laughs that we always seem to have in the group.
Sometimes we can spend too much time worrying about tomorrow, so we forget to enjoy today.
