Throwback tune today, perhaps one of my favourites from this iconic band. It’s an amazing tune to chill in front of a fire with a glass of wine (and it has a great sax too!)…
I was regularly told for many years that the Dark Side of the Moon is a quintessential psychedelic album, so in 2022, I decided to do some research to see if this was indeed true.
It appears that at the time, the Band was struggling because Syd Barrett, one of the founders had left due to his struggles with mental health. Most of the lyrics were written by Roger Waters, who at the time, was also going through a negative period of his life.
In 2017, I was introduced to a lady called Holly Mason over lunch, a regular racing car driver, including at the Goodwood Revival Festival. At one point she stepped away for a few minutes and someone said to me “You do know she’s Nick Mason’s daughter don’t you!” which of course got the rest of us at the table talking about our favourite Pink Floyd tracks.
When she returned, the conversation stopped immediately and for a moment she stood there wondering what was wrong. We’ve all had that moment when we come into a group and people just go quiet; it’s unnatural and we wonder what we may have done or said to cause this. I remember that I just looked up at her and said something like; “They told me who your Dad was, so we were talking about Pink Floyd’s best songs”.
Later on when the others had wandered off, we carried on chatting, a really nice girlie chat while her son ran around the table playing.
A lot of famous people are normal, no airs and graces; Holly is a lovely lady who wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable and I enjoyed meeting her.
It’s so much kinder to tell someone why we behaved in a certain way; that way they aren’t left wondering.
