Saturday Sounds: 4th January 2025

January 4, 2025

There are times we should all take it slow; from the first stages in a relationship to knowing when to kick back to avoid getting burnt out.

However, as an SME, it’s extremely frustrating to come across local government departments or business organisations that appear to neither understand the need for prompt responses nor have the ability to see the issues of business owners who don’t have the reassurance of a monthly pay cheque.

A contact today mentioned that it has taken from a meeting in August to a reminder from them in November before they finally received contact details for the person they had been promised today (3rd January).

While I understand that certain departments operate within strict policies, procedures and regulations to ensure transparency and fairness and multiple layers of approvals and oversigh can cause delays in decision making, but to take 4 months to pass on contact details leaves me perplexed. Even if the person had forgotten, why not just reply to the reminder with the information?

If we promise to do something for someone, then we should make every effort to ensure that it’s either done immediately after our conversation or put it on our “To Do” list so it’s not forgetten.

No one likes to feel they don’t matter and people in departments that have been set up to perform specifically for public services or responsibilities to the business or veteran communities have a duty to perform.

Have you come across any similar instances you are able to share?
