Saturday Sounds: 15th March 2025

March 17, 2025

So here we are Super Saturday, that bittersweet moment in the calendar of most rugby fans; it’s an awesome day to have all the teams playing one after the other, along with the hope of seeing the team you support lift the 6 Nations trophy, but at the same time you know it marks the end of the tournament.

Today is going to be really strange without our Captain on the field; we missed him last year due to his commitments to the Sevens tournament and who could have foreseen last weekend’s injury which meant the end of the 2024/25 rugby season for him.

The long standing joke that Scotland would prefer to lose to France rather than see England winning has resurfaced, but I doubt that any of the Scottish players will be doing anything other than giving their all. To ever contemplate otherwise would be disrespectlful to a team that I have always loved; I strongly believe they need a “Shaun Edwards”, someone who made such a difference to our team when he joined us.

Today will see the disappointments, from those individual players who made a mistake to those who gave their all to no avail. It’s these moments that can define how we grow as a person, both individually and professionally. Sometimes a closed door happens because it wasn’t the right thing for us, sometimes whilst we performed as best as we could, but others were just that better or just too far ahead to be caught. So this song is for you:

And atThe end of the day remember the daysWhen we were close to the edgeAnd we’ll wonder how we made it through

If we have the chance to win tonight as expected and England win in Cardiff, I guarantee you that I will get messages saying “we beat you in Twickenham, so we were the better team of the tournament”. One contact in particular doesn’t message when we play well and it’s all about their team…

Whatever the outcome today, let’s hope that rugby prevails, all it values and hard work, uniting us all.
