Sunday Sounds: Postscript for the Week…

October 6, 2024

Last night, Amazon Prime suggested I watch a programme called “George Michael – I’d  know him a mile off”, an interesting offering given my recent posts, but I did indulge in the 40 minute documentary which centered around GM celebrating his 25 years in music and his first tour after a gap of 15 years.

Those of you who followed this page for a while may recall that I have often mentioned GM, from my early days clubbing in London, not to mention that first meeting at “La Pomme d’Amour” in Holland Park. So for any other fans of his music and humour, the documentary is a good way to wind down and remember him. (I wonder if that security guard ever got to see himself on it..!!).

It was a trip down memory lane with so many tracks that made me smile, so it’s difficult to pick one for today (yes I know, I rarely do a Sunday song, but why not mix it up from time to time?!). “Fast Love” is one of Pooh Bear’s faves, but here’s my pick :

I can still see him singing this a cappella in Annabel’s one night, (hips swaying in that unique way of his) to a certain tall and beautiful lady who will forever remain in many hearts,  – as you can imagine, she was beaming back at him…

I’ll close with a final indulgence for today, GM’s cover of a track that may resonnate with you when you meet that special person who causes all sorts of unfamiliar emotions to surface. Even when you are way past that initial high chemistry and love bubble phase, they still make you feel alive, bring a smile to your face just when you think of them and you are finally content…

With apologies for the corny pictures, it’s not my video; just close your eyes..

I’m not normally a fan of live versions of classic tracks, but this one is fairly faithful to the original, for those of you who like SW:

and for those of you who love Teddy Swims, here’s his version:
