When we show who we are as a person, this is what people will remember.

It doesn’t matter if you’re at a network group or just in the supermarket, don’t hide who you are. We remember people and how they make us feel and that is what they will take away. Going forward, when you need that a pampering pack for that special person in your life, will you turn to the usual online marketplace or will you pause to click on the online website of that cheeky matelot you met at the #CheshireBusinessShow who offered you some hand cream as you wandered past his stand and made you laugh?

“People buy from people” reflects a fundamental principle in business and sales because trust and relationships are crucial. Customers often feel more confident and comfortable buying from individuals or brands they can connect with personally. When people see authenticity, empathy, and understanding in a sales interaction, they’re more likely to make a purchase because they feel understood and valued.

Networking is about building a rapport with people and being real – veterans who are now running a business have huge inbuilt qualities that make them reliable and loyal; they had the backs of those around them when they served. They also have a wicked sense of humour and can entertain you for hours with stories and pranks from their time serving.

A business brand with personality feels more human, relatable, and approachable, which can foster customer loyalty and trust. When a business conveys a unique, authentic personality—whether it’s fun, caring, witty, or knowledgeable—it stands out from competitors and resonates more with its audience.

You are the best marketing department for your company and never let anyone try to make you think they can somehow create your brand online. I was reminded of this last night, having spent time chatting with someone I’m helping; their knowledge of recounting stories and facts from years of acquired knowledge not only within their area of work, but also life in general makes them interesting and I know this will be key in their ongoing journey in business.
