The Water Supply That’s Poisoned for Profit

Imagine a private water company that realizes people drink more when the water when a small amount of salt has been added to the supply.

Over time, they increase the salt levels because it drives consumption—even though it causes dehydration and long-term health problems to several organs in the body such as the stomach and kidneys. When confronted, they argue, “We’re just giving people what they want!”

Online platforms work in the same way: They deliberately push harmful content to children and us all —self-harm, hypersexualization, eating disorders and worse—because it keeps us hooked for longer. When confronted, they claim it’s just “what the algorithm is recommending.”

If a food product caused any issues, the local health inspector would step in as well as the government regulators. Sadly there are very few laws that allow our authorites to step in and demand deletions and / or impose fines.

Do you think tech giants get a free pass? Do we need stronger online child protection laws?
